Why the Big
Green Chair?
Well, I suppose a better question to ask is, why is
the Big Green Chair so inspiring? Why is it that when I or anyone else sits in it, we are
instantly inspired to do something productive, whether that be music, writing, reading, or
homework? The best answer to this is that the inspiration isnt exactly
instantaneous. Its more like, you sit down for a moment do something inconsequential
and when you realize the sheer amount of effort its going to take to get out of the
Big Green Chair, you decide that you might as well do something productive and postpone
the time until such effort is required due to, oh, I dont know, a fire, the call of
nature, or a death threat of some sort.
You see, the game room, - which could be more aptly named the computer
room, the music room, or the room we invariably end up in at some
point regardless of whether we have an agenda isnt a very big room, but
serves a large multitude of purposes. Those purposes are to house my large collection of
books, the giant television that the boyfriend refuses to give up, the four amps and six
some odd guitars, and two computers and a printer, both on one desk. The boyfriend sits on
one end of this desk and uses his computer to write and record music, therefore he needs a
vast amount of room to push back and play. I do not. Therefore, I have pushed myself as
far into the corner as possible, meaning that the only way in and out of my space is over
the Big Green Chair.
So, when I get into said piece of large furniture (which I refuse to give up), I must
first climb over the armrest and then settle into the large, deep seat because there is
too much computer crap to actually put my feet under the desk. And in order to get out of
it, I have to hoist myself up and over the arm rest using mostly arm and back muscles,
because by the time something happens to actually make me move, my legs havent just
fallen asleep, theyve died of suffocation.
So, fanboys and fangirls, that is why The Big Green Chair. Because once you get in, it
isnt worth it to get out.
